Introducing . . . Corrosion Resistance Coatings...our newly patented proprietary process called IOSSO-ZN which converts zinc alloys into hard metal.

Zinc has many fine attributes, including the ability to be very easily and inexpensively die cast within tremendous tolerances. Zincs only drawback may be that without being enhanced, is too soft to be used in applications for which it would otherwise be ideally suited. With the application of the IOSSO-ZN processes, zinc can contend with many other alloys in an economical manner.

Through an electrochemical process, controlled to provide critical mechanical tolerances with superior uniform coverage, IOSSO-ZN can bring the surface hardness of zinc up to 72 R.C. Though 72 R.C. is unheard of for zinc, it is explained by the fact that the coating process bonds directly with the metals exterior, creating in effect a new skin. Though hardness will be its primary characteristic, the new skin will also possess other positive attributes that will prove significant in certain types of applications. It is non-magnetic and static free. The base metals properties will suffer no alterations.

This extremely hard, tough surface is ideal for abrasion-resistant applications. The very low coefficient of friction provides a self-lubricating quality to the surface for reduced friction and anti-galling applications. The hardened surface is uniform over complex shapes with no buildup. Due to the bonding with the base zinc alloy, there is no peeling, flaking or spalling of the hardened surface. Longer part life is apparent.

IOSSO-ZN PROVIDES NEW OPTIONS

Automotive design engineers now have manufacturing options that previously had not been looked at in the industry. One example always looked at is achieving vehicle part weight reduction. This is accomplished by offering parts produced out of zinc that were formerly produced from steel. Not only does the IOSSO-ZN process economically enhance individual parts, but adds significant cost savings to finished product without sacrificing safety.

We have also launched a direction in our process around hydraulic valves and other automotive component parts where tolerances are critical in the design phase. One of the reasons that we are often touted as the best at what we do is because we can hold those critical tolerances, and provide a part with wear and corrosion resistance, as well as added lubricity. This is because the IOSSO Process provided uniform coverage with no buildup.

We supply our process coating to lock makers around the world. These high volume precision wear parts were previously manufactured in brass or steel alloys; however, with the application of our ZN coating, they have been able to cast these parts in zinc. This gives them the flexibility in design and also economic benefit.

Until now, the only process for treating zinc was with over plating of copper, nickel and finally chrome. These applications are mostly decorative. Our goal is to extend wear, resist corrosion, and offer our customers a superior longer lasting part to bring to the marketplace.
